Van den Bosch Transporten selects telematics solutions provider for critical food transports
Van den Bosch Transporten, the Dutch logistics specialist for liquid and dry bulk transports decided to implement state-of-the-art telematics services in order to further extend its competitive advantage and to provide additional service to its custo

First usage area is temperature-controlled food transport in tank containers – customers receive full temperature monitoring for their paneuropean shipments.

Van den Bosch Transporten provides a fixed variety of intermodal logistic services across modalities like ship, rail and road transport. Its specialty is liquid and dry bulk transports for both the food and non-food industry. Van den Bosch Transporten serves the global market through seven branches in Europe. With 800 employees and an annual volume of almost 3.2 billion kilos of transported product, Van den Bosch Transporten is in the top 10 of bulk transporters in Europe.

Van den Bosch was looking for an integrated telematics solution for its temperature-controlled food tank containers. These insulated tank containers have no independent power supply which is required for real-time monitoring and sending of status updates. Van den Bosch was looking for  maintenance-free telematics hardware which could provide temperature monitoring in combination with full movement tracking.  Moreover, the telematics solution should enable route optimization based on detailed route analysis, fully automatic customized reports as well allowing online customer access.

After an excessive one-year test period, in which Van den Bosch compared several providers, MECOMO GPS solar with cable-based high precision temperature has been selected. The solar-powered tracking unit allows short-cycled tracking (e.g. every 5 minutes incl. transmission to data center) in movement. In addition, it provides the information of tank-inside temperature as well as outdoor temperature. One of its key features is its powerful report generator which allows Van den Bosch to define, create and automatically distribute customized reports at scheduled intervals for its organization in order to optimize its business processes. The company expects – besides customer service improvements – to experience significant cost reduction.

Peter van den Bosch, owner of Van den Bosch Transporten, stated: “We are driven by innovation and quality for our customers. With online temperature monitoring of our tank food-containers we move forward ahead in the market.”

Stefan Heimerl, MECOMO CEO, says: "We are excited about that an international logistics leader like Van den Bosch selected MECOMO as their telematics provider. It is an honor. We are committed to fulfill all telematics requirements across the different modalities of Van den Bosch and looking forward to a long-term relationship."
