In the spotlight: new tank containers

As announced last year, Van den Bosch is investing in new tank containers from manufacturer Van Hool. The updated High Volume Ultra Light tank container is being delivered in a series of one hundred containers. The first ten have now been added to the fleet.

“This tank container has been upgraded in various ways to further improve safety and limit damage,” says Antony van Lierop, manager Technical Department. “The biggest change is the ladder, which is attached at a different angle at the rear of the container to create more foot space. The container is also equipped with a safety line that runs across the container. Drivers can now hook up from the ladder position and raise the folding handrail.”

Safety and damage limitation

“The box has also been raised and made more compact to limit damage,” Van Lierop continues. "In addition, the customs covers have been fitted with chequer plate and the construction of the steam connections has been modified to prevent damage. The spill box outlet taps have also been positioned higher for the same reason. Finally, the latest container has a new GPS system from Mecomo. In short: plenty of innovation!”

Collaboration and innovation

“With the purchase of these containers, we are strengthening our position in the market and can further expand our activities in Europe," says Emiel van Haren, Operations Director of the Liquid Bulk division. “The first impression is good and the modifications are paying off. The improvements are the result of practical experience and discussions with our drivers. A good example of how cooperation and innovation go hand in hand.”

High Volume Ultra Light

The High Volume Ultra Light tank container was developed some years ago in collaboration with producer Van Hool. With a capacity of 35,500 litres, maximum insulation value and low weight, it is ideal for transporting liquids with a low density, such as oils and fats. The container is also equipped with under-controls and a single point of sealing to prevent unnecessary work at height.

    Jointly investing in sustainable kilometres

Van den Bosch is fully committed to sustainability. One of the steps it is taking in this respect is to use HVO 100, in other words hydrotreated vegetable oil, as an alternative to fossil diesel in road transport. With a view to making this process as efficient and transparent as possible, we are developing a new tool that will allow us to calculate automatically how much HVO is needed per transport - as well as the associated costs, CO savings and certification.
