UNICEF programmes deliver tangible results in Madagascar and Ivory Coast
At Van den Bosch, we believe in sustainable progress that goes beyond logistics. That is why, together with UNICEF, we support programmes that contribute to better living conditions, education and economic opportunities for children and their communities. Recent progress reports show that this partnership has delivered tangible results in Madagascar and Ivory Coast.
In southern Madagascar, many families still have limited access to clean drinking water. The effects of climate change make this situation even more challenging. Through the Climate-Smart Villages programme, UNICEF is working with 21 villages on sustainable solutions that not only improve access to water, but also contribute to economic development, knowledge sharing and climate resilience.
The results show positive progress. All 21 villages now have basic infrastructure in place, including water supply systems, street lighting and ecological sanitation facilities. In addition, more than 30,000 jerry cans of clean drinking water have been sold, demonstrating that these facilities are actively used by local communities.
Supporting local entrepreneurship
The programme is also making progress in supporting local entrepreneurship. More than 1,330 sustainable products have been developed, of which over 800 have already been sold. Vermicomposting systems have been introduced in twenty villages, enabling organic waste to be converted into compost. This not only contributes to a healthier living environment but also creates new sources of income for families.
Knowledge sharing and awareness are key elements of the programme. During 75 village meetings, residents shared knowledge about climate change and sustainable solutions. In addition, green school programmes have been introduced in thirteen villages.
