Fleet expansion and sustainability
Through SHIFT 2030, we aim to optimise the supply chain in the most sustainable way. Recently, we have made several investments to expand this further in practice. Not only is our container fleet being expanded, but new trucks have also been purchased.
Our branch in Sweden has received two new Scania R500 trucks. Both trucks have been used for a project in the far north of Norway: the well-known Hammerfest! Now, the trucks will be used for transporting our 40ft containers for customers in Sweden and Norway.
The specifications of these three-axle trucks enable them to be driven on Scandinavian roads during the cold winter season. The engines deliver 500hp and are equipped with a retarder brake for safe driving, especially in hilly areas. The trucks also have several other features that contribute to safe operation. These include adaptive cruise control, an emergency braking system, ESP stability control, driver attention assist, lane departure warning, additional LED lighting, and a bogie that helps the driver put more pressure on the driven axle, for example on slippery roads.
Sustainable trucks
We want these new trucks to run on HVO as much as possible. Combined with good fuel efficiency, this will help us reduce CO2 emissions for road transport by 90% or more compared to regular diesel. This makes the way we carry out our intermodal transport in Scandinavia a showcase for what we can achieve in terms of CO2 reduction.
Expansion of the container fleet
We previously reported on the investment in new tank and silo containers. “With the purchase of these containers, we are strengthening our position in the market and enabling further expansion of our activities in Europe,” said Emiel van Haren, Operations Director for the Liquid Bulk division. To increase our capacity for transporting liquid food products, we have expanded our fleet with 100 High Volume Ultra Light tank containers. In addition to tank containers, 40FT pressure containers have also been purchased for the intermodal transport of dry bulk goods. The first of these containers will be delivered in the third quarter of 2025.
