Purchase of 500 tankcontainers: Used for intermodal liquid bulk transport.

Logistics service provider Van den Bosch focuses on the expansion of intermodal transport in dry and liquid bulk products.

Opportunities
“A market which is full of unused potential. The coming years the organisation’s focus will be on retention of the turnover in road transport, by which the substantial growth will be realised on the terrain of intermodal transport”, according to Peter van den Bosch (Chief Executive Officer Van den Bosch Transporten).

To achieve this target the organisation started to built 500 extra tank containers used for liquid bulk products. From January 2011, these containers are delivered in groups. These tank containers have superior isolation and are provided with advanced systems to maintain the right temperature of the products during transport. Additionally, the organisation is considering an expansion in dry bulk silo containers.

Lean & Green
“Since 2006 we invest more & more in intermodal transport; a combination of road- rail- and sea- transport”, according to Peter van den Bosch. In the past year, Van den Bosch transported a higher volume by intermodal transport than by road transport for the first time in history. The focus on intermodal transport is a well considered decision. Not only because of the major advantages in the payloads (highest weight allowed), but also because of the growing disadvantages according to traditional road transport. For instance the increasing congestion problems, the rising road taxes and the sky-high fuel costs. Furthermore, it fits ‘green entrepreneurship’ which is an important aspect in the strategy of Van den Bosch.

The organisation, this year awarded with the ‘Lean and Green Award’, belongs to the leading companies in the field concerning sustainability. Namely, one of the most effective measures to reduce emissions is to apply the so called ‘Modal Shift’. Through being innovative, flexible and operate in a clear direction the logistics service provider builds it leading position in the international bulk market.
